Century's best
Clemens pitches Yankees to third title in four years
With their newest trophy, the Yankees have averaged nearly one World Series title every three years. The Bronx Bombers closed out the 1990s with their third World Series title in four years -- and their second Series sweep in a row -- with a 4-1 win over the punchless Braves. Roger Clemens won his first-ever Series game by holding the Braves to four hits in seven-plus innings. The Yankees blitzed through the 1999 postseason, winning 11 of 12 games, including 12 straight World Series games dating back to 1996. The Braves, on the other hand, are the Brooklyn Dodgers of this generation -- they dropped their fourth World Series of the decade and second to the Yankees.
