Hometown hero Sandy Alomar of the Cleveland Indians, who entered the All-Star Game with a 30-game hitting streak, hit a two-run homer off the San Francisco Giants' Shawn Estes in the seventh inning to key the AL's 3-1 victory. The game, which cut the NL's overall margin to 40-27-1, was also marked by some comic relief. Larry Walker, the NL's leading hitter with a .398 average, ducked a wild Randy Johnson fastball in the second inning, then jokingly turned his batting helmet around and batted right-handed for one pitch before drawing a walk.
